Pilates & Breast Cancer Treatment

Although one in eight U.S. women will develop invasive breast cancer over her lifetime, there is currently no standard program designed for effective rehabilitation — even though there are enormous benefits from addressing the physical, emotional, and psychological aspects of treatment and recovery.

That fact led me to become a certified breast cancer exercise specialist, and combine that knowledge with my extensive experience with Pilates.

The result is a one-on-one, tailored program that addresses what each client needs to feel whole again. From working on range of motion for radiation treatments to increasing well-being and offsetting fatigue, Pilates can be a powerful recovery path.

Numerous studies and breast cancer experts have found that Pilates and breast-cancer-specific exercises can bring:

  • Improved recovery from surgery, whether you’ve had a lumpectomy, mastectomy, or reconstructive surgery. Sessions can ease rehabilitation in areas such as shoulders, neck, and arms.
  • More mobility, so you can accomplish everyday tasks that would otherwise be painful as you recover.
  • Emotional and psychological benefits, including enhanced body image, more confidence, increased optimism, and a stronger sense of well-being.

From diagnosis through treatment and into recovery, the combination of Pilates and specialized breast cancer exercise can help you feel back in control and thriving.
